Holy Cross School is pleased to announce that Grant Hughes has been appointed as Wrestling Head Coach effective for the 2025-2026 school year.
Grant Hughes is a 2018 graduate of Saint Paul’s Catholic School in Covington, LA and holds a B.A. in Communication Studies from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. Coach Hughes is joining Holy Cross after serving as Wrestling Assistant Coach and Wolf Pack Wrestling Club Coach since 2021, where he had the opportunity to coach nine individual state champions and multiple finalists. During his time at Saint Paul’s, he was also an English teacher, emphasizing the importance of academic achievement along with athletic success.
“I am eager to get started at Holy Cross School and with the wrestling program, where I not only teach skills to these student-athletes but help build their character and integrity, guiding them to future success on and off the mat,” said Hughes about his new appointment.
Holy Cross’s renowned Wrestling Program has a record of 28 state titles throughout its history, finishing the 2024-2025 season third in the state for Division 1 with 221.5 points. Hughes’s reflection on this program is evident, stating, “Holy Cross has a strong team of underclassmen poised to reclaim our place at the top, and I am ready to lead them to that spot.”
John Serio, Assistant to the President for School Operations stated, “After spending time with Grant, our choice was clear. He exemplifies the character and values that Brother Melchior, C.S.C. honored and upheld when he started this program, and we look forward to watching these young men grow under his leadership.” Holy Cross enthusiastically welcomes Coach Grant Hughes to the Holy Cross family.
