Holy Cross School Announces Transition in Basketball Program

Holy Cross School is pleased to announce changes to its storied basketball program. Coach Mister Kirkwood has made the decision that he has completed his tenure as Holy Cross Basketball Head Coach.

Earlier this year, Mr. Kirkwood earned the title of the winningest coach in Holy Cross’s illustrious athletics program. He said, “Since around December, it has been on my mind what I can do with this program, and what I will do next with Holy Cross. Do I continue as coach, the Athletic Director, or a new role? After careful discernment, I felt I was being called in a different direction where I would have more influence in helping to shape the young men who walk through our doors.”

Effective for the 2025-2026 school year, Mister Kirkwood has accepted the opportunity to serve Holy Cross School as the Assistant Principal for Student Affairs. About this role, he stated, “I reflected on the path that I set for my children and former players. I am proud of who they are becoming and know that I will continue to guide and mentor young men through the education and values that Holy Cross is built upon.”

With Kirkwood’s transition to a new role, Holy Cross School enthusiastically welcomes its new Basketball Head Coach, Chris Biehl. Mr. Biehl is a graduate of Archbishop Rummel High School and holds a B.A. in Secondary English Education and an M.Ed. from the University of New Orleans.

Since 2012, Coach Biehl has served as Basketball Head Coach for Brother Martin High School. During his tenure there, he not only led his team to a state championship game in 2017 and a Final Four appearance in 2020, but he also had the most wins in the school’s history with 255 victories. In coming to Holy Cross, Coach Biehl said, “I am honored to be a part of the Holy Cross legacy. Like Coach Kirkwood, I value academic excellence and leadership, and I look forward to continuing this team's successes and building up not only the current, but the future student-athletes who step on the court.”

“Holy Cross continues to appoint accomplished educators who honor the mission of the school in forming the men of tomorrow through faith, academics, and discipline. We are excited to welcome both Mister Kirkwood and Chris Biehl in their new, respective roles and look forward to working with them,” said John Serio, Assistant to the President for School Operations.

Coach Biehl met with the team on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 where he had the opportunity to get to know the players and is eager to start working with them for the upcoming 2025-2026 season.
