New Orleans, LA — While visiting for the Sugar Bowl, the Notre Dame Alumni Association partnered with Holy Cross School New Orleans to make a meaningful impact on the local community through a series of service projects. Over 100 volunteers from both communities joined forces to support New Orleans Catholic Charities, Ozanam Inn, and the New Orleans Mission, exemplifying a shared commitment to faith, service, and compassion.
Holy Cross School provided its facilities and additional volunteers to support the effort. Together, volunteers created no-sew blankets, baby care kits, baby blankets, and toiletry kits. Each care package included heartfelt letters of encouragement written by volunteers, adding a personal and uplifting touch for the recipients.
Both Notre Dame and Holy Cross School are members of the Congregation of Holy Cross, a network rooted in service and education. This shared connection made the partnership a natural fit and brought the two communities together in an inspiring display of solidarity and generosity.
Michael Silva, a Holy Cross student volunteer, reflected on the experience: “It’s impressive to see the turnout from both communities, especially on a holiday.”
The projects benefited some of New Orleans’ most vulnerable populations and highlighted the power of collaboration in bringing hope to those in need. The initiative demonstrated how service can transcend geographic and institutional boundaries to create lasting change by uniting Notre Dame fans and the Holy Cross School community.
As the Sugar Bowl approaches, Holy Cross School extends its best wishes to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in their game on New Year’s Day. “We are proud to have partnered with Notre Dame on such a meaningful initiative, and we look forward to cheering them on as they represent the Holy Cross family on the national stage,” said Eric Desormeaux ’95 High School Principal
