Holy Cross Alum and Legendary Coach Lou Carboni ’68 to Be Inducted into Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Holy Cross School is proud to announce that Coach Lou Carboni, Class of 1968, has been selected for induction into the prestigious Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025. The induction ceremony will be held on January 10, 2025, in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Coach Carboni’s career exemplifies dedication, skill, and commitment to both the sport of baseball and to the student-athletes he has mentored over the decades. A three-year letterman at Holy Cross, Carboni twice earned All-District honors and captained the 1968 baseball team. His collegiate career included being named a junior college Honorable Mention All-American and an All-Conference player at Loyola University under legendary Coach Louis “Rags” Scheuermann.

Beginning his teaching and coaching career in 1973, Carboni held positions at St. John Prep, De La Salle, and East St. John before returning to his alma mater, Holy Cross, in 1980. Over 25 seasons as head coach of the Tigers, he became the winningest baseball coach in Holy Cross history, achieving an impressive 417 victories.

Under his leadership, the Holy Cross-based Saucer Marine American Legion team won a state championship in 1982, and the Tigers were state runner-up in prep baseball in 1987. In 1996, Carboni was recognized as the Class 5A State Coach of the Year.

His Holy Cross legacy was cemented in 2015 when he was inducted into the Holy Cross Sports Hall of Fame.To honor his achievements, Holy Cross presents the Lou Carboni Award annually to its most outstanding baseball player.
