New Orleans, LA – [October 2, 2024] Holy Cross is thrilled to announce the student honorees for the 2024 Rivalry game. Senior Joshua Adams Jr. has been selected for the 2024 Great American Rivalry Scholar-Athlete Award. Senior Joseph Zimmermann has been selected as the recipient of the Royal Honda Community Service Award. They both are exceptional students who exemplify strong character, scholarly ambition, and a commitment to their faith.
Joshua Adams Jr., a senior offensive lineman and captain for the Holy Cross Tigers, has been named the 2024 Great American Rivalry Scholar-Athlete Award recipient. With an impressive 4.76 GPA, Josh is a shining example of academic excellence.
Beyond his time on the football field, Josh is actively involved in his school community, serving as a member of the Student Council, Peer Ministry, National Honor Society, Student Ambassadors, and Eucharistic Ministry. He has also made a significant impact in his local community.
In addition to many academic awards and honors in his years at Holy Cross, Josh was selected to attend the Albert H. Smalls Normandy Institute through the George Washington University last summer.
His dedication to academics and athletics has earned him numerous honors, including WGNO Friday Night Football’s Scholar-Athlete of the Week and recognition from the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club.
Josh epitomizes what it means to be a student-athlete, but more than that, Josh is a young man who loves Jesus Christ. His faith is the center of his being and propels him to succeed. Josh embodies humility, perseverance, courage, meekness, and family, the core values supporting the football program’s motto of “I am Third.” His leadership is one of servant-leadership, where he places the needs of others before his own.
Josh plans to attend Louisiana State University, majoring in political science. He is the son of Natalie and Joshua Adams Sr. He will receive a scholarship from the Great American Rivalry Series. Congratulations, Joshua!
Joseph Zimmermann, a senior defensive lineman and two-year letterman of the Holy Cross varsity football team, has been selected as the Royal Honda Community Service Award recipient. In addition to his work on the field, he maintains a 4.67 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Ambassadors, the National Music Honor Society, the HC Stompers, Eucharistic Ministry, and multiple other clubs at school. Joey's passion for music extends beyond the school walls. He is a member of the Holy Cross Concordia Choir and has earned numerous choral awards. His most cherished musical experience is when he used his talents to serve the Catholic Church as a member of the St. Louis Cathedral Choir for two years! He enjoyed the Christmas midnight mass performance the most.
Joey takes great pride in helping others and serving his community. In the summer of 2024, he attended the Notre Dame Vision Program in Indiana. This leadership conference, which is rooted in the Catholic faith, allowed him opportunities to attend daily meetings with Christian scholars, strengthen and further educate his faith, and perform various service opportunities. During the summer of 2023, Joey participated in one of the annual Holy Cross Immersion Programs where students from Holy Cross schools around the country come together to meet, learn, work, and share in the mission of Blessed Father Basil Moreau.
During his free time, Joey volunteers with his local Knights of Columbus, at churches, and at festivals. Although he has not made his final decision on where to attend college, Joey plans to major in biology or biomedical engineering while minoring in music and vocal performance. He is the son of Louise and the late Paul Zimmermann, class of 1988. Joey will receive a scholarship from Royal Honda for his commitment to service both at Holy Cross and in his community. Congratulations, Joseph!
Their character and service exemplify the Holy Cross values and tradition of excellence. We are incredibly proud and eager to celebrate them at the Holy Cross vs. Jesuit game on Friday, October 4, 2024. For more information regarding the game, please view the informational packet HERE.
