Kal Bonura ‘08 has been named the head baseball coach at Holy Cross School New Orleans. Bonura joins his alma mater after recently serving as assistant baseball coach at Chalmette High School.
Holy Cross High School Principal Eric DesOrmeaux ‘95 is “proud to welcome home former student-athlete Kal Bonura, who understands the mission and traditions of Holy Cross School. I am looking forward to him being an integral part of our athletic program, the future of HC baseball, and an educator of young men. It’s a great day to be a tiger!”
During his time as a Holy Cross student, Kal Bonura was a two-sport athlete playing baseball and football where he earned captain positions in both sports. Bonura earned All-District recognition in both baseball and football, All-State in football, and was honored as the St. Bernard Parish Male Athlete of the Year. After graduating in 2008, Bonura continued his education at the University of New Orleans. There he earned a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Health Studies and Business while also furthering his baseball career as a four-year member of the UNO Privateers baseball team. After college, he began his professional career in coaching at the University of New Orleans, Newman High, Loyola University, and Hammond Magnet High School before his current role as a business teacher and coach at Chalmette High School.
“I am excited to be back at Holy Cross,” says Bonura. “I am looking forward to getting a proud baseball program back to where it belongs.” Coach Kal Bonura joins his brother Coach Bret Bonura ‘10 on campus. Both have a strong Holy Cross legacy dating back to their grandfather Coach Jean Faust who led the Tigers to the 1969 baseball state title.
“I am happy to welcome back Kal Bonura as our next head baseball coach,” said Athletic Director Mister Kirkwood. “He brings with him a wealth of knowledge, experience, and a legacy of baseball in the New Orleans area.”
Coach Bonura and his wife, Lindsey, are the proud parents of daughter Giavanna. He is looking forward to working with the students and upholding the expectations of the administration, alumni, and Holy Cross baseball program.
