New Mardi Gras Parade Route

It's the fun time of year, Mardi Gras! And as of right now, it looks like the show is still on! Students and their families are getting anxious ready to celebrate. Sophomore, Luke Flood says, “Mardi Gras is a really fun time of the year, and I can't wait to be out there with my family eating king cake and Popeyes Chicken.” However, before running out to claim a spot on the route, it's important to know one very crucial change in this year's Mardi Gras festivities. You may have heard of the parade routes having changed for Mardi Gras 2022. Due to a shortage of security and staff in New Orleans for Mardi Gras, the Mayor has decided to change the parade routes for a slightly shorter and safer event. Major Krewes like Rex will start on Napoleon Avenue and Carondelet Street instead of South Claiborne Avenue and Napoleon Avenue. The Krewe of Endymion also has been re-routed. Endymion's route will change by turning right onto Elks Place at Loyola Avenue instead of turning right onto St. Charles Avenue. Endymion's parade will turn right onto Girod Street from Loyola Avenue before proceeding to the back of the Superdome where the krewe enjoys the Endymion Extravaganza. And, some major krewes such as Zulu will remain on its original route.

Plenty of students don't seem to mind the parade route changes because at least it allows us to even have Mardi Gras this year. Sophomore, Jake Gegenheimer says, “I don't care where the parade is, as long as there are going to be parades in New Orleans this year.” Mardi Gras will be a little different with the route changes, but it will also still be a fun time had by all considering last year's parade-less celebration. So, as they say, "Laisse Le Bon Temps Rouler" and make sure you're out there catching beads and screaming "Throw me something mister!"  Mardi Gras Day will be Tuesday, March 1st, so make sure you're ready for the weeks prior to have a fun time, stay safe and enjoy Mardi Gras at last!
