The New HCTV

Ever since I started Holy Cross back when I was in the 6th grade, the video announcements were the main source of communication of important events and reminders for the students. It was definitely a unique aspect of Holy Cross. However, over the years, the announcements became just an ordinary part of every morning. It was difficult to grab our attention.

This school year, the video announcements, or HCTV as it is now called, received a big upgrade once senior John Sheridan and sophomore Kameron Callahan stepped into the student council role of Communication Directors. When asked about HCTV video announcements of year’s past, John Sheridan said, “They tried to make it too professional.” He also pointed out that the announcements this year is more of a “vlog style” to make it more entertaining and in the moment. Another aspect of HCTV that Sheridan believes really has the students much more engaged this year is “trying to get everyone involved of all ages.” Giving a voice to students of all grade levels has really been evident this year in HCTV.

Now, it’s not just Callahan and Sheridan doing all the magic to make the announcements the fun and entertainment it is now. They also have three video editors that give it a final unique touch to make the announcements something to look forward too. These three editors are freshmen Aiden Michler and Connor Michler, and 8th grader Saige Greco-Leblanc. They film most of the announcements and have put a big focus on trending music and distinctive transitions keeping the target audience watching and entertained. The moderator of this spectacular AV Team and Student Council is Theology teacher, Mr. Eric Ferry, who also dabbles in his own comical YouTube channel featuring funny and satirical videos he films and stars in himself.

This team was able to change the way Holy Cross put out information and give the students and faculty the chance to see something fun and creative every week. They have multiple segments including the prayer, pledge, and Holy Cross Man; Coach’s Corner; and Gabbing under the Gazebo. In addition to those, Sheridan and Callahan film in different spaces on campus every week to spice things up. Sometimes they might be walking down a stairwell or sitting in a classroom. They keep the audience guessing and still relay important information for the school. We look forward to watching the announcements every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and can’t wait to see how future Student Council members fill these shoes and carry HCTV forward. We are HC!
