GNOSEF 2021 Results
Holy Cross would like to recognize the following students who competed at the virtual Greater New Orleans Science & Engineering Fair in February:
- 8th graders: Joey Zimmerman, Joshua Adams, Jackson Sexton, Chris Sercovich, William Peterson (not pictured), Carter Spencer, and Finn Martin (not pictured), Matthew Watson (not pictured)
- 9th graders: Connor Lisotta, Emmet Scobel (not pictured), Jeffrey Louis (not pictured)
- 10th graders: Ethan Boyd, Brody Calamusa, Preston Giroir (not pictured), Lathan Naquin (not pictured), Gabe Lucroy (not pictured), Aidan Anthaume (not pictured), and Steve Volpi (not pictured)

The following students earned category awards in the JUNIOR division:
- Joey Zimmerman*** (8th grade) won 1st place in the Biomedical Engineering category.
- Joshua Adams (8th grade) won 3rd place in the Physics & Astronomy category.
- Finn Martin (8th grade) won 3rd place in the Engineering Mechanics category.
- Jackson Sexton (8th grade) won 4th place in the Plant Sciences category.
- William Peterson (8th grade) won 4th place in the Chemistry category.
*** Joey Zimmerman also won an overall Grand Award in the junior division for his project on a positioning device for cerebral palsy patients. He has also been invited to present his device at the 21st annual Tulane Engineering Forum in April.
The following students earned category awards in the SENIOR division:
- Ethan Boyd* (10th grade) won 1st place in the Microbiology category.
- Joshua Atkins* (11th grade) won 2nd place in the Engineering Mechanics category.
- Preston Giroir* (10th grade) won 2nd place in the Physics & Astronomy category.
- Lathan Naquin (10th grade) won 3rd place in the Plant Sciences category.
- Alex Giacona (11th grade) won 3rd place in the Engineering Mechanics category.
- Emmet Scobel (9th grade) won 3rd place in the Physics & Astronomy category.
- Connor Lisotta (9th grade) won 4th place in the Materials Sciences category.
* These students have submitted their projects to the Louisiana Science & Engineering Fair. Good luck to them as they compete at the state level!
This is the greatest number of students to receive awards at the GNOSEF in the last 10 years and the first junior division grad award winner! Congratulations, Tigers!
The Holy Cross Science Fair program is coordinated by Mrs. Tara Lavender and Dr. Katherine Schilling. Thank you to the science department teachers, especially Mrs. Barbara Odinet, Mr. David Lindsey, and Mr. David Westfall, for mentoring their students during their research projects.
