Changes to Lacrosse Program Sets High Goals

By: Pierce Brodnax , '23

The Holy Cross Lacrosse team kicked off their practices in November with some very long and hard days. The team has set high expectations on themselves for this upcoming season. Sophomore, Colin Bourgeois says that his expectations for the season is “to improve as a team and develop the new and younger guys to be the best lacrosse players that they can be, so we can get to that state championship game.” Bourgeois is a midfielder and was one of the captains of last years team, but he did not play because he suffered an injury before the season had a chance to get started. Brody Calamusa had similar comments on the upcoming season. He is an attackman on the lacrosse team. He saysThe season will end up going very well because we have a deeper roster than we had last year, and we needed a deep roster desperately. Last year everyone had to play every minute of the game and the other team could just outlast us on the field.”  Former captain of the defensemen last year for the team, Grayson Burkhardt has high hopes for the upcoming season. His expectations for this season are also to win a state championship for Holy Cross. He highlights all of the recent changes the program has made to reach those goals and aspirations of winning a state championship. He states, “We have an entirely new coaching staff. The entire team is not all freshman and we have the experience of playing at that varsity level and the confidence that we can win the games against the older and more competitive teams”. He goes on to say, There is not one player that will lead the team to a state title. It is a team effort to get there and to win. We might have leaders on the team, but one individual cannot carry a team to a state title and win without the help of his teammates”.  Good luck to the lacrosse team as the begin their new season! We are HC!
