The Return to Holy Cross in the Midst of Covid

After 5 months of not seeing our Holy Cross Family, the students, faculty, and staff are absolutely glad to be back together despite many students having to adapt with how the school year is looking so far -- wearing masks, socially distancing, and getting temperatures taken every room we walk into. Senior, Peter Velazquez said, “It is going to be a rough year. I do not like having to wear a mask in class and not being able to take it off.” There will definitely be an adjustment period to the new Covid world we live in, but having some sort of normalcy is a positive for the blue and gold family. The faculty and staff sympathize with the students and are working hard to help the student body understand that these precautions are necessary for the health and safety of our Holy Cross Family.

One take on the new precautions around campus is from Theology Department Head, Dr. Tim Kettering. “My hope is that we make it through without a major interruption. It would be very unfortunate if we had to return to the virtual school of last spring. Too much was lost during that time, and I think things are going well, but we need to be more careful. We need do a better job of physical distancing.” Dr. K is right; we lost too much last spring, but we are more prepared this time and are ready to go virtual if necessary – a very sad and scary thought, especially for the senior class. Social distancing is the key to success for Holy Cross right now to try to get things back to normal and have a good rest of the year. The last thing any of us want is to bring home Covid to a loved one and contribute to the dangerous spread and prolonging of phase progression. With those precautions, and many others, in place, Holy Cross is hoping to have a smooth school year together and in-person filled with hope in that everything goes back to normal before the school year ends. God bless the Holy Cross family and stay safe! We are HC!
