The Holy Cross Science department would like to congratulate and recognize all the students who competed in the Greater New Orleans Science & Engineering Fair at Tulane University on February 11 & 12.
In addition to the individual student awards, Holy Cross School was awarded the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation School Grant ($1600) for entering more than 10 projects in the GNOSEF.
The following 8th grade students competed in the junior division of the GNOSEF: Gage Baldassaro, Gavin McDow, Zachary Dwelle, Emmet Scobel, Landon Carderara, Jayden Davis, CJ Davis, Blade Schneider, Aaron Guichard, the team of Wyatt Audler, Riley Domingue, & Alec Lanning, the team of Brock Lewis & Brady Landreaux, and the team of Dominic Mistretta, Liam Haydel, & Noah Murina.
The following high school students competed in the senior division of the GNOSEF: Henry Herbert, Alex Giacona, Brody Calamusa, Stephen Treadaway, Lathan Naquin, Ashton Castro, Louis Veillion, Joshua Atkins, Leyton Gould, Gabriel Falgoust, Ian Doody, Navi Aguilar, Peyton Madere, Vincent Bourgeois, Joseph Jones, Shivam Srivastava, Ethan Boyd, Preston Giroir, Evan Jones, Matthew Huth, Xavier Glaude, and the team of Paul Gomila & Ethan Ward.
Holy Cross took home the following awards in the junior division:
- CJ Davis won 2nd place in the category of Engineering Mechanics and qualified to advance to the Louisiana State Fair (LSEF). (teacher: Tara Lavender)
- The team of Wyatt Audler, Riley Domingue, & Alec Lanning won 4th place in the category of Plant Sciences. (teacher: Tara Lavender)
- Emmet Scobel won 4th place in the category of Physics. (teacher: Tara Lavender)
- CJ Davis was awarded a national award by the Broadcom Masters program. (teacher: Tara Lavender)
- Gavin McDow competed in the category of Engineering Mechanics and was recognized by the Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers. (teacher: Tara Lavender).
- Tara Lavender was recognized by the Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers for her role as Gavin McDow’s sponsor for his project on which roof shape can withstand hurricane force winds.
Holy Cross took home the following awards in the senior division:
- Gabe Falgoust won 2nd place in the category of Energy: Chemical and qualified to advance to the Louisiana State Fair (LSEF) (teacher: Barbara Odinet).
- Leyton Gould won 2nd place in the category of Materials Science and qualified to advance to the Louisiana State Fair (LSEF) (teacher: David Lindsey).
- Alex Giacona won 2nd place in the category of Engineering Mechanics and qualified to advance to the Louisiana State Fair (LSEF) (teacher: David Lindsey).
- Louis Veillion won 2nd place in the category of Energy: Physical and qualified to advance to the Louisiana State Fair (LSEF) (teacher: David Westfall).
- Vincent Bourgeois won 3rd place in the category of Engineering Mechanics and qualified as an alternate for the Louisiana State Fair (LSEF) (teacher: David Lindsey).
- Ian Doody won 3rd place in the category of Microbiology and qualified as an alternate for the Louisiana State Fair (LSEF) (teacher: Barbara Odinet).
- The team of Paul Gomila and Ethan Ward won 4th place in the category of Biomedical, Health and Translational Medical Sciences. (teacher: Katherine Schilling)
- Peyton Madere won 4th place in the category of Earth & Environmental Science. (teacher: David Westfall)
- Ashton Castro won 4th place in the category of Biomedical, Health and Translational Medical Sciences. (teacher: Katherine Schilling)
- Joshua Atkins won a special award from the Office of Naval Research for his project on boat keel design. (teacher: David Lindsey)
- Alex Giacona was recognized by the Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers for his project on which 3D-printed shape cluster is best at resisting compression forces (teacher: David Lindsey).
- Peyton Madere won a special award from the New Orleans Geological Society for his project on mineral efficiency in drill bits.
- Louis Veillion won a special award from the Yale Science & Engineering Association for his project on color's effect on the transfer of energy.
- David Lindsey was recognized by the Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers for his role as Alex Giacona’s sponsor.
