On Tuesday, the Holy Cross Tiger Soccer Team took the on the Central Lafourche Trojans in an exhibition game at Tiger Field. The Tigers are coming into the matchup at 2-0 with wins over Lusher and Beau Chene. The Trojans lost last year in the regional round of playoffs to Caddo Magnet who was eventually knocked out in the quarterfinals by Beau Chene.

As described in a pregame interview with Coach Stu, “They are returning a good number of players from last year; this will be a very competitive game.” Despite Central Lafourche losing in the regional round of playoffs they have returned most if not all their players. The game began with an uproar from the student section. Throughout the entire first half of the game there were multiple opportunities for both teams to score, however great defense was played by both teams. Most spectators would agree that the lack of scoring was due to the weather being cold and windy. At the end of the half the score was still 0-0. The Tigers kept the ball on the Central Lafourche’s side of the field; however, they just couldn’t put the ball in the net. Coming out of the half, the game picked up and both teams started getting more physical with one another. The score was 0-0, until a Central Lafourche defender cleared a ball into Holy Cross’ territory where a Central Lafourche wing was ready to attack. The Central Lafourche wing dribbled the ball all the way down in front of the goal where he faked out the Holy Cross goalie and kicked the ball into the net. After the goal, the Tigers had a total of 3 corner kicks that came so close to going in. All in all, it was a competitive, fun, and exciting game between both teams, but the Tigers fell to the Trojans 1-0. In a postgame interview with Junior, Dante Maraldo, he said “We could have been better on the offensive side of the ball, but we will clean it up at practice tomorrow and be ready for our next game.” The Tigers play next in Beau Chene’s tournament starting on December 6.
