Our fourth graders have been learning about the Silk Road in their Social Studies class this week.
On Monday, they worked in groups to create goods that were often traded on the Silk Road. They made silk from China, spices from India, gold from Rome, silver from Persia, and food to travel with.
On Wednesday, the boys acted as merchants from different cities along the Silk Road and negotiated trade. Their goal was to get one of each of the goods from the other cities before running out of food. They had so much fun!
Ms. Alvarez also brought in authentic souvenirs from her travels. The boys were able to feel Chinese silk, smell Indian spices, see sand from the Sahara Desert, touch Ivory Jewelry and look at hand threaded tapestries.
