2019 Homecoming Court Experiences a Night They'll Never Forget

By Josh Solomon, '21 and Collin Huff, '20

This past weekend for Holy Cross was rather eventful, with the football team taking a 49-26 victory over the Warren Easton Eagles followed by the Homecoming Dance the next night. Amidst all the festivities and excitement this weekend, our Holy Cross Homecoming Queen was announced at the game during halftime on Friday. The students voted for their selections of the Homecoming Court during the week, and it consisted of Emily Rice ‘21, Bella Morel ‘20, Sophia Ferrara ’21, Madisyn Freeman ‘21, and Lindsey Long ’20. The experience of being on Homecoming Court was a special one for the girls who participated. They are interviewed by student council for a videao, presented at a pep rally, ride to the game in a limousine, have reserved seating on the field for the game, and are presented at halftime to anxiously find out who won the crown. Following the Friday night festivities is the Homecoming Dance on Saturday where they are presented again and dance to a song selected by the Queen herself. The Court and the Queen are also presented at Family Day.

This year Lindsey Long, senior at Ursuline Academy, ultimately wound up taking the crown for Homecoming Queen this year. “This is always a very exciting time of year for the female members of our HC family. These are the girls who support our boys both on and off the field. We want to recognize them too,” says Mrs. Gonzales, Homecoming Court Coordinator. Lindsey Long, crowned by Returning Queen, Abigail Strohmeyer ‘19, was nominated by senior Brandon Leslie. Long explains, “Holy Cross Homecoming Court was a once in a lifetime experience, one that every little girl dreams to have. This experience has opened my eyes to the endless possibilities the world has to offer, no matter how scary it may seem.” Plenty of girls who are nominated and voted onto the court have envisioned this very experience since they were young girls. “Ever since I was young, I have dreamed of being on Homecoming Court, and my dream has come true,” recounts Maid, Sophia Ferrara. Holy Cross’ student activities goes above and beyond to make sure this event is a special one – a night they’ll never forget. Maid, Emily Rice says, “Throughout this whole experience, I felt endless love and support from my family, friends, and the Holy Cross community.” This year’s Homecoming Court was a phenomenal one and has made the entire HC family proud. Congratulations to Lindsey Long and the rest of the Homecoming Court. We are HC!
