On Friday October 11th, the Holy Cross Tigers took on the Warren Easton Eagles. The Tigers got off to a hot start on Warren Easton’s first drive, Sophomore Cornerback Ernest Marbley picked off the quarterback’s pass and ran it back all the way to their own side of the field. This gave the tigers an early spark, making statement on defense. Then when Tigers were on offense, they drove all the way down the field, ending with Junior Wide Receiver Jalen Johnson catching a 2-yard pass for a quick and easy touchdown. Warren Easton came back and scored off their next drive making it 7-6. The Tigers then took full control of the game, scoring 28 points in a row. It all started off with multiple defensive stops, getting the offense back on the field continuously. When the offense got rolling, they never looked back. They began their streak with Junior Running Back Amiri Franklin taking it to the house for a 5-yard run to the end zone. Then after more defensive stops, Senior Wide receiver Tyler Kirkwood received 2 back to back touchdowns making it 28-6. After talking to Junior Running Back Amiri Franklin asking him how the offense got to a hot start he said, “It all started off with the defense setting us up stop after stop.” Overall, the Tigers played their hearts out during this game making a statement on both sides of the ball.
