Rivalry Recap

The big HC vs Jesuit football game took place on Friday October 4th. It was the 100th rivalry meeting between the two teams and the game is a notorious rivalry, one of the biggest in the state. The Holy Cross Tigers received the opening kickoff and Junior Defensive End, Barryn Sorrell, caught it and gained a few yards. That set the Tigers up with great field position, but they were not able to capitalize. The Jesuit Blue Jays then received the ball and scored on their first possession and ended up with all the momentum. Going into half-time they led the Tigers 14-0. Jada Wesley, a Holy Cross cheer alumnus said, “They didn’t play to their max potential in the first half, but they got their act together in the second half.  It was just too little, too late.” In the second half the Tiger’s senior wide receiver, Alondre Wells scored a bubble screen touchdown. Shortly after, Jalen Johnson made a game-changing play and scored a touchdown. With those two touchdowns, we had ourselves a ball game! Towards the end of the game, Jesuit had the ball and scored a touchdown but they missed the extra point, so the Tigers still had hope. This was a crucial drive for the Tigers, and they had to capitalize in order to win the game. Holy Cross snapped the ball, but the quarterback was pressured and hit and fumbled the ball. The Jays hopped on the ball and that was the ball game. When asked about the game Ahmad Coleman, class of 2018, said, “I think they will bounce back and win the homecoming game.” With the performance of the Jesuit Blue Jays, the Holy Cross Tigers came up short of victory but look ahead to next week’s match-up against Warren Easton. Go Tigers!
