I had the pleasure of being able to talk with the Student Body President, Evan Autin ’20. When asked what this new title means to him, he responded “A brotherhood, being able to teach others in the student body and even learn something myself”. He said The Student Council does a lot of the work behind the scenes of Holy Cross; they are the core of school activities and keeping everyone’s spirits high on campus whether it’s gameday, a pep rally, or any other day. The student council tries to get everybody to be more passionate about their school spirit. The Student Council also pushes to start new traditions or even bring back old traditions that have been forgotten about over time. In the upcoming months, expect a push for more school spirit. “The student council is different compared to years past. We’re more involved and more passionate,” Autin explains. The Student Council is said to constantly check student activities during their free time to see what they can do to improve Holy Cross. When asked what he has to say to the students about this upcoming year, Autin said “Get more involved, go to more school events and push for more school spirit.” Reaffirming Autin’s point, Mrs. Clark, newly appointed assistant Student Activities Moderator, says “This year’s student council is dedicated to being a sounding board for the students. They felt that previous student council boards were too inclusive and that the student body voice wasn’t heard as much. By involving more class representatives and creating a town forum, they hope to achieve this goal.” Clark spent a week with the student council over the summer in Austin, TX and has been an integral part in activity planning for the year already. “The student council is excited and more passionate in being a true student-led council.” The Student Council is pushing for this year to be one to remember, and I have no doubt that they will do a great job. Good Luck to the Student Council and all Holy Cross Students on this upcoming school year. Go Tigers!
