Second graders traveled to the butterfly garden on the Paris Avenue campus to get a close up view of insects and plants. They are currently studying insect and plant life cycles by observing and caring for mealworms, painted lady larva, and brassica plants.
The boys were able to meet with Dr. Katherine Schilling to discuss the types of plants and insects that they may find in the garden. They took their iPads outside to capture photos of any interesting specimens. The boys found all stages of insect life from larva to pupa to adult, and they collected a few caterpillars for observation and released an adult butterfly into the wild.
